Independent, plain-English solar help for Irish homeowners. We're not an installer and we don't sell panels. The main tool is a quote check: four numbers in, a verdict out, with the sum shown. Around it sit 70 written answers on prices, batteries, the SEAI grant and export payments.
A note from Dan
I'm Dan Malone. I run AskSolar on my own, through my company Mawla Ltd in Dublin. I'm not an installer and I don't sell panels.
I have solar on my own house. I built AskSolar as a free way to check a quote against one published rule you can read, test and argue with. Every answer here shows when it was last reviewed. If you spot something wrong, email me and I'll fix it.

How AskSolar is funded
Free for homeowners. AskSolar may charge an installer a flat fee if you ask us for an introduction and you accept it. Every quote is checked against the same published rule, and no installer can pay to change a verdict. The price check never sends your details to an installer.
No installer or manufacturer pays to appear on the site or to change what it says, and the installer list is ordered by public reviews, never by payment.
How the price check works
Every quote is checked against the same published, dated rule, and the result prints the arithmetic so you can follow it. The rule, how it was tested against public quotes, and a changelog of every correction are on the method page.
Results are indicative. They can tell you whether a price is in a sensible range for the system, not what your roof will cost to the euro. Always get more than one written quote from an SEAI-registered installer.
Privacy
The quote check needs no name or email. The privacy page sets out what we collect, who handles it, how long we keep it and how to have it deleted.
